Our Story

His Heart, Our Heart

Pastors Peter and Melinda Hartley carry a deep and unwavering belief in the region of Logan City, especially the growing suburb of Yarrabilba and its people. What others saw as new streets and empty blocks, they saw as possibility. From the beginning, their conviction was not simply to plant a church, but to invest their lives into a community still being formed.

After serving eight years on staff at the Tanah Merah campus of Dunamis Church, Peter stepped out with Melinda in obedience to God’s leading. With more than 15 years in ministry and a commitment to being not just hearers but doers of the Word, they sold their home and relocated in February 2016 with their twins, Zephaniah and Charlotte. That courageous decision marked the birth of Dunamis Church Yarrabilba, built on faith, sacrifice and vision.

Our Story

“perhaps the Lord will fight for us,”

Encouraged by the account of Jonathan and his armour bearer who stepped forward with a simple “perhaps the Lord will fight for us,” Peter and Melinda pursued the call of God with quiet determination. With no church building available in the new development, they opened their own home and began gathering people there. When zoning restrictions forced them to stop, they moved to a local park. The location changed, but the calling did not.

Just two weeks after relocating, Peter was involved in a tragic motorbike accident that left his right dominant arm completely paralysed. In the midst of pain and uncertainty, they chose perseverance over retreat. Faith was no longer theoretical. It became personal. Together, they continued building what God had entrusted to them, learning that obedience is often forged in adversity.

Our Story

“Faith was no longer theoretical”

Five months after the accident, the church moved into a temporary community hub, a former sales office, and remained there until January 2018. When that door closed, they once again faced the uncertainty of having no permanent location. With limited resources but steady conviction, they pressed forward, trusting that even in seasons of disruption, God was still making a way.

In the years that followed, Dunamis Church gathered in the Sports and Community Hub from June 2019 to June 2021, and then at Yarrabilba State Secondary College from July 2021 to April 2023. Each move required adaptability, resilience and renewed faith. Every relocation was a reminder that the church is not a building, but a people.

Through constant change, the community grew stronger. What began in unfamiliar spaces became a culture of perseverance and unity. The journey shaped the heart of the church, grounding it not in comfort, but in calling. Every victory carried the weight of a journey undertaken together.

There were seasons of setting up and packing down, of uncertainty about what would come next, and of choosing faith over familiarity. Yet in those in between moments, something deeper was formed. Commitment strengthened. Relationships deepened. The church learned that stability is not found in a venue, but in shared conviction and shared purpose.

Clarity Before Commitment

Our Mission

Today, Dunamis Church calls The Buzz home. What once began in living rooms and parks now gathers in a space filled with familiar faces, shared stories and growing faith. There is a quiet gratitude in the journey and a deep expectation for what God is still writing. Peter and Melinda continue to lead with open hands, caring for the church family while keeping their hearts turned outward to the wider community they love.

In December 2021, in the middle of the uncertainty that COVID brought, they launched 5FOLD. It was never about creating another organisation. It was about responding to real needs in real time. 5FOLD carries the same heartbeat as the church, to love people well, to show up consistently and to create practical pathways for hope, support and dignity.

Together, Dunamis Church and 5FOLD tell a story of steady faithfulness. What started in an empty, developing suburb has grown into a living, breathing community marked by service and resilience. Peter and Melinda continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with their church family, choosing to do life together and believing that even the smallest seeds, planted faithfully, can shape a region.
